Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation Awards Grant to Rappahannock Community College

Rappahannock Community College (RCC) received $2,000 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help nourish our students and staff who may be experiencing food insecurity. The Nourishing our Neighbors grant supports community feeding partners by helping neighbors increase their access to nutritious food and providing nutrition education to eliminate health risks for those experiencing food insecurity.

The manager from Food Lion’s Warsaw store Adam Weaver visited RCC’s Warsaw campus to meet with RCC’s President Dr. Shannon Kennedy and Food Insecurity Committee Chair Kelly Clifton. “It is my pleasure to present this grant and learn more about RCC’s efforts to provide nutritious food options to students and staff,” said Weaver.

“We appreciate the generous grant from Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help our students and staff who face food insecurity,” said Clifton. “When students are hungry or worry about where their next meal will come from, it presents learning challenges. This grant will help us provide nutritious foods through our campus food pantries. Over the past year we’ve seen an increase in food pantry visitors. Every donation helps and we are grateful to our community partners like Food Lion.” RCC has a food pantry on the Warsaw and Glenns campuses as well as grab-and-go tables at other sites.

The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across its 10-state footprint. Established in 2001, the Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded over $29 million in grant funding to help nourish communities with fresh food.
