Strategies to Amplify Student Voice and Increase Engagement in the Mathematics Classroom

In this session, we examine ways to create positive and engaging learning experiences in the mathematics classroom that do not overwork teachers. These strategies ensure students do not sit passively in our classroom:
- Presuming the positive of our students' knowledge,
- Stepping back from being the holder of all knowledge
- Presenting tasks that increase discussion and open the possibilities for problem-solving
- Creating authentic opportunities for collaboration.

Implementation of HMH Into Reading

HMH Into Reading is a comprehensive, researched-based literacy program VDOE-approved through the VLA. The session will focus on the overview of the components of HMH, resources, assessments, and an overview of implementation that has been proven to be successful.

The “Write Stuff” for your Elementary School Classroom

Daily writing experiences are essential for student reading success. In this session, participants will learn how to plan and implement writing lessons that supports language arts standards and increases writing engagement. Pause, Problem Solve, and Practice: An Evidence-Based Feedback Routine

This session will focus on providing effective feedback during oral reading practice, particularly for early reading instruction. The session will present considerations from research and an evidence-based feedback routine that teachers can use to guide their responses to students' errors and hesitations during oral reading practice.
Targeted Audience: Reading specialists, early elementary classroom teachers, and other reading instructional staff (Title 1 teachers, EIRI tutors, paraprofessionals)
Accessibility and your Online Class Resources
Date: June 18, 2025, 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Learn how to bring your online course elements into compliance with current laws regarding accessibility. Accessibility does not just mean making your course more accessible to students with disabilities, but also best practices to make course elements more usable by everyone. We will be using Canvas, but many of these ideas are applicable to any LMS. We will specifically show off the tools that are available in the VCCS or at Rappahannock. This will include how to scan your course to determine issues ahead of time and allowing you to fix anything that needs it.
Targeted Audience: K-12 or other faculty teaching using an LMS, especially Dual Enrollment / online Faculty for Virginia Community College System schools.
Harnessing The Power of AI to Make Differentiation a Breeze

Differentiation is key to meeting the diverse needs of students, but it can often feel overwhelming. In this interactive session, teachers will explore how AI can be a powerful tool for streamlining differentiation, saving time, and enhancing student learning.
Participants will:
- Learn how AI can assist in creating leveled assignments, scaffolding support, and personalized feedback.
- Discover tools and strategies to adapt content for varied learning styles, abilities, and interests.
- Practice using AI to generate customized lesson materials, assessments, and instructional supports.
- Discuss ethical considerations and best practices for integrating AI into their teaching.
By the end of the session, teachers will leave with practical AI-driven strategies they can implement immediately to make differentiation easier and more effective. Whether you're new to AI or looking to refine your approach, this workshop will equip you with valuable skills to support all learners. This will be an interactive session with demonstrations, discussions, and hands-on practice.

Empowering Your Teaching with AI: Practical Tools for K-12 Educators
Date: July 15, 2025, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

This one-hour training session, "Empowering Your Teaching with AI," introduces high school teachers to practical AI tools that can help with content generation, assessment support, and organization. Participants will explore examples and applications of these tools, learn basic responsible use considerations, and gain confidence in integrating AI to enhance their teaching practices.

Get Hands On with the Virginia 4-H Life Science Mobile Learning Lab!
Date: July 14, 2025 at Glenns or July 15, 2025 at Warsaw, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Presenter: Virginia 4-H Extension Agents
Come see and experience the NEW VA 4-H Life Science Mobile Learning Lab! This will be an opportunity to learn about the lab, how it can fit into your curriculum, and how you can partner with 4-H to bring this mobile field trip to your school!
The Virginia 4-H Life Science Mobile Learning Lab engages students in high-tech STEM learning related to health and sciences. The lab features 6 interactive stations covering aspects of human and animal physiology, social and emotional learning, and environmental science. Students will explore emotions, try starfish breathing, explore a model of the human brain, examine taste buds and digestion, and even dive underwater through virtual reality to explore freshwater mussels. Additionally, learning kits are available for checkout and two outdoor classrooms are equipped with TV monitors for various lessons. The lab is designed to ignite interest in careers in health and life sciences and was funded by the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation.

Complete your CPR training for your license renewal or learn a skill that literally saves lives. This CPR course meets the “hands on” requirements of the teacher license renewal requirement. Participants should dress appropriately to work on the floor and at a table. This course also covers First Aid & AED (Automated External Defibrillator).
