RCC Continues to Build Support Systems for Area Students
Wittman Congratulates Rappahannock Community College on Upward Bound Program

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) offered his congratulations to Rappahannock Community College on receiving funding from the Department of Education’s TRiO – Upward Bound program.

“This is both welcomed and well-deserved news for Rappahannock Community College,” said Congressman Wittman. “These federal dollars will help identify and provide services for high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The program will help motivate and support students in their pursuit of a college degree by providing academic tutoring, personal counseling, mentoring, and financial guidance. I am thrilled for Rappahannock Community College and the students of Essex, Lancaster and Washington and Lee High Schools, and I look forward to working alongside of them to ensure they have the tools and resources they need to prepare our young people for success.”

“Rappahannock Community College is so excited to partner with Essex, Lancaster, and Washington and Lee High Schools on the Upward Bound program,” said Rappahannock Community College President, Shannon Kennedy. “The purpose of the program is to prepare low income and first generation students for college attendance, improve high school performance, and provide academic enrichment activities during the summer months. This is a wonderful opportunity for students who need extra support.”

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the 1st District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he serves as the ranking member of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee.
