A $500 scholarship from the Warsaw/Richmond County Chamber of Commerce, awarded annually to a full-time student attending Rappahannock Community College from Richmond County, goes this year to Kayla Gordon.
In addition to maintaining a GPA of 2.5 or better, recipients must show good citizenship and potential for success; Gordon demonstrates these qualities both by her work with young people at the Richmond County YMCA, and by teaching Sunday school at her church.
She is pursuing the degree of Associate of Arts and Sciences, with specialization in psychology and social work.
“Each year since 1999, the Warsaw-Richmond County Chamber of Commerce donates to RCC, giving deserving students a chance to continue their studies,” says Cristal Harper, a financial services advisor at Union Bank and Trust and a member of the Chamber of Commerce Board.
“Through support of higher education, our business community grows with highly trained employees and new small businesses.” Harper adds a warm “Congratulations!” to Ms. Gordon.
