Summer Reading Program at Richmond County Public Library Begins on June 24

Magician and Juggler Jonathan Austin

Magician and Juggler Jonathan Austin will appear at the Summer Reading Kick-off Party on Saturday, June 24 at the RCC Warsaw Campus Lecture Hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A free hot dog lunch and Summer Reading Program sign-ups will also be available.

The long summer break from school can hurt the growth in children’s reading skills made during the school year. To help prevent that, the Richmond County Public Library encourages kids to keep on reading as participants of their Summer Reading Program.

The annual free Summer Reading Program for children begins on Saturday, June 24 with a kick-off party from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Rappahannock Community College Warsaw Campus Lecture Hall and Student Lounge. Famed Magician and Juggler Jonathan Austin will entertain in the RCC Lecture Hall from 11 a.m. to Noon.

Sign-up for the Summer Reading Program follows in the RCC Student Lounge from Noon to 1 p.m., where a free hot dog lunch and a free Scholastic book will also be provided. As in previous summer reading programs, participating children can earn prizes as they read and attend fun-filled programs each week from late June until the end of July.

Each Tuesday from June 27 until July 25, the library will offer a fun-filled program. Note that the first program on June 27 will be held at the former Intermediate School Gym at 13027 Historyland Highway and all remaining programs will be held at the Richmond County Elementary School Gym.

Finally, on August 5, those who complete their summer reading logs will be invited to the Finale Party at the RCC Student Lounge from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. which will feature a pizza party and entertainer, along with awards and prizes.
