CHALLENGE: Students Drop Out Because of Weak Support Networks

83% of our non-dually enrolled students attend RCC part-time and juggle work and family responsibilities. These challenges can be overwhelming and college is often the first responsibility to let go.

Solution

SOLUTION: Academic Success Coaching

Academic success coaching involves face-to-face, frequent interaction between trained advisors and students, many of whom are low-income and first-generation college students. It’s a partnership with the students that helps them address academic, personal and professional barriers to their success.

An endowment started by Dr. Dorothy Cooke (left) supports success coaching and scholarships.

Inspiring Excellence

“The teachers and staff go out of their way to support you. That was important for me as an older student. Plus, I can move on to a full university.”

Veteran Jerald Smith’s decision to attend RCC was carefully considered.  RCC was designated a 2018-19 “Military Friendly School” by VIQTORY media.

How can you help?
Contribute to the Crowther Student Success Endowment

sissy crowtherThis endowment, which honors RCC’s third president, Dr. Sissy Crowther, funds academic success coaches at the College and the resources those coaches need to effectively reach students. These coaches form a vital support network for our students.

Research since the 1980s shows that sustained, pro-active, and personal advising is one of the most effective tools for increasing college students’ retention and success.
