Spring Commencement 2019

This is always a wonderful time for Rappahannock Community College as our students look ahead with great anticipation to completing their coursework and becoming college graduates. To help prepare for this exciting time, we are providing the following important information regarding commencement:

COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES

Graduation exercises for Rappahannock Community College will be held, under a tent, on the front lawn of the Warsaw Campus on Friday, May 10, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. It is important that graduates report promptly at 4:00 p.m. to the Warsaw Campus to the tent located behind the main building to robe and receive final instructions concerning the ceremony. Please remember to leave your valuables at home.

Handicapped parking will be available to those displaying handicapped license plates or an authorized decal.

ACADEMIC ATTIRE

Student academic attire will consist of a black cap and gown, which will be worn during the ceremony. Students who ordered caps and gowns may pick up and pay for their academic attire from the bookstore on their respective campus beginning approximately April 11. Bookstore hours are as follows:

Glenns Campus (804-758-6726)

Monday 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Tuesday & Wednesday 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Thursday 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Friday 9 a.m.-12 noon.

Warsaw Campus (804-333-6794)

Monday 1-6 p.m.

Tuesday & Wednesday 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Thursday 1-6 p.m.

Friday – closed

In order to coordinate your attire with ceremonial attire:

  • Men should plan to wear shirt, tie, and dark slacks (no shorts please) for coordination with the black robe. Also, dark dress shoes and socks should be worn.
  • Women should wear dark dresses of appropriate length for the gown and dark shoes.

Please call the admissions and records office at 804-758-6740 on the Glenns Campus or 804-333-6740 on the Warsaw Campus if you have any questions about attire.

GOLD TASSELS

Final grade point averages will not be available until after spring grades are posted. Gold Tassels will be distributed to all eligible graduates upon arrival to the check-in table on May 10.

PHI THETA KAPPA

If you are a member of PTK, please contact Marlene Cralle at 804-333-6770 for the Warsaw Campus or Kathy Vanlandingham at 804-333-6780 for the Glenns Campus for information regarding the purchase of a PTK stole and tassel. The PTK group photo will be taken promptly at 4:30 p.m. Please note: If you are late you will not appear in the photo.

INVITATIONS

Invitations for the ceremony may be purchased from the bookstore on either campus. An invitation is not required for admittance to the graduation ceremony and there is no limit to the number of guests you can invite.

DIPLOMAS

Diplomas are sent certified mail the by the end of August to all graduates regardless of whether or not you participate in the formal commencement ceremony. If you have a change of address before August 1, 2019, please inform the admissions and records office. Please note that students with a hold on their record will not be issued a diploma or official transcript until the hold is cleared. All library and college materials must be returned and all financial obligations must be settled.

INCLEMENT WEATHER

In case of rain the ceremony will go on as scheduled. It will be appropriate for graduates to carry an umbrella if they wish. In case of severe inclement weather, please stay tuned to local radio stations and television stations. It will also be announced via the RCC Alert system for those who are registered.

Directions to the Warsaw Campus are as follows:

From the North: Follow route 17 S. to Tappahannock.  From Tappahannock go left onto route 360 E./Queen Street to Warsaw.  Proceed to the second stoplight in Warsaw, turn right and follow signs to parking area.

From the South: Follow route 17 N. to Tappahannock.  Turn right onto route 360 E./Queen Street to Warsaw.  Proceed to the second stoplight in Warsaw, turn right and follow signs to parking area.

From the East: Follow route 360 W. to Warsaw.  Proceed to the second stoplight in Warsaw, turn left and follow signs to parking area.

From the West: Follow route 360 E. to Tappahannock merging into US-17 N/route 360 E.  In Tappahannock turn right onto route 360 E/Queen Street.  Proceed to the second stoplight in Warsaw, turn right and follow signs to parking area.
