Students can complete their first two years of teacher preparation courses in the Pre-Teacher Preparation Program (P-TPP), receive an associate degree from RCC, and then transfer to a four-year college or university. Several Virginia four-year institutions offer transfer opportunities for P-TPP students.
RCC offers Teacher Preparation Programs in elementary, middle and high school teaching that transfer to Virginia’s four-year colleges and universities. Students who wish to teach at the middle or high school level (sciences, mathematics, history and social science, English, foreign languages, and career and technical) will complete the Associate of Arts and Sciences Transfer Degree.
It is highly recommended that P-TPP students determine what content area and/or grade level they would like to teach, as well as the school to which they wish to transfer. The transfer process for P-TPP students can be complicated. It is very important for you to meet with your advisor to ensure that you are on the right track for transfer. Additionally, you should communicate directly with your transfer school to make sure you are on track for a smooth transfer.
Thanks to our guaranteed admission agreements, graduates of our Pre-Teacher Preparation Program can take their associate degree and credits to more than 20 four-year schools in the state.
The program itself spans two years (four semesters) where you’ll be in classes such as “Information Literacy” and “Intro to Teaching,” as well as those core transfer classes such as math, English and history.
