Our new Baking and Pastry Fundamentals program will prepare you for work in the most demanding and professional spots in the foodservice industry. Lead by our culinary arts professor, Chef Hatley Bright, you will get the cooking and baking skills that are becoming a requirement at many restaurants and adult living communities in this area and beyond.
“There’s a lot of very, very good premade product out there,” says Chef Bright, “but having something made from scratch that you make and eat the same day even, really has a different feel and a different touch to it.” This, Chef Bright says, is becoming the expectation at many venues.
This program will give students a taste of not only basic baking and cooking principles, but also you will also earn a national certificate for food safety, which is now the standard in professional kitchens across the Commonwealth of Virginia.
