If you’ve been through our standard HVAC program and are ready for more intensive and in-depth instruction on the topic, then try out our Advanced HVAC Career Studies Certificate. This program is good for students who have some experience with HVAC equipment and are ready for the next level.
Our professionally trained and experienced faculty will show you the advanced skills for installing, troubleshooting, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Most of the instruction will apply to residential systems.

The Advanced HVAC program is made up of nine classes (29 credits altogether). Like the basic HVAC program, you’ll take “Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Controls I” and “Circuits and Controls I” — and you’ll also take “Mechanical Codes” and more.
Getting Started at RCC:
- Apply online or in person.
- Have your official high school transcripts sent to RCC to see if you can use your high school grades to substitute for a placement test. If you need to take a placement test, Placement tests cost $5 and scores are good for two years. Call a counselor at 804-758-6730 (Glenns Campus) or 804-333-6730 for more information.
- Complete your Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) and add RCC School Code 009160
- Meet with a counselor to review your placement test scores and register for class.
