Non-RCC Programs
RCC has identified three community college programs — Horticulture Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Respiratory Therapy (offered by Reynolds Community College) that are in demand in our service region and are offered at community colleges in neighboring service regions.
Adult Education + GED
Adult Education + High School Equivalency
The Adult Education program provides comprehensive courses that enable adult learners to develop knowledge in order to:
- Obtain a GED or High School Equivalency and choose a career pathway
- Place in post-secondary education
- Obtain the necessary skills for employment
- Improve basic numeracy and literacy skills
Get the skills you need to achieve your goals. Our services are offered free of charge to adults 18+ throughout the Northern Neck. Day and evening classes are available at RCC Warsaw and RCC Kilmarnock. Evening classes are available in Montross, Colonial Beach, and Northumberland.
English language acquisition classes
Practice reading, writing, listening and speaking basic/intermediate English for the workplace. English classes are held in Montross.
High School Equivalency testing
Earn the high school equivalency credential to increase your career opportunities. Testing is offered at the RCC Kilmarnock Center on Wednesdays. Testing vouchers are available for eligible participants.
Virginia’s Career Readiness Certificate
This industry-recognized certificate endorses core employability skills required across many occupations. It confirms to employers a potential employee’s competence in workplace skills such as reading, applied math, and in locating information.
Classes are free for students
Registrations are held during the months of August for classes starting in September and January for classes starting in February. An appointment is required in order to register. At this appointment, you will attend orientation, fill out a registration form, and complete pretesting in English and mathematics. Career coaching is also available to all adult education students.

GED TESTING FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who can take the GED test?
Virginia allows people as young as 16 years old who meet qualification guidelines to take the GED® test.
Where do I take the test?
RCC’s Workforce and Community Development Center in Kilmarnock is a Pearson Vue Testing Center and the test can be scheduled to be taken there through the myged.com website.
Do all sections of the test have to be taken at one time?
In Virginia, you can take the individual subjects one at a time or all four the same day. The exam consists of reasoning through language arts, science, social studies, and mathematics.
Is identification required when you come to test?
Your identity must be verified by showing a valid driver’s license, learner’s permit, passport or other form of official government ID. The ID must show your picture and include your name, address, date of birth, ID number and signature.

RILL WAS DESIGNED WITH YOU IN MIND!
Enroll in a course today and explore something new in a stimulating classroom environment where you can share your interests with community members. RILL is an exciting program of the Rappahannock Educational Foundation, Inc. (RCC EFI) that is intended to be a life-enriching learning experience for adults. As RILL students keep their minds active through these thought-provoking classes, they also have the privilege of helping local students in their pursuit of higher education. Each year a scholarship is awarded to an RCC student through net proceeds from RILL class tuition payments.
Classes: RILL’s noncredit college-level classes are held in convenient locations within RCC’s service region — Virginia’s Northern Neck, Middle Peninsula and surrounding areas. Some instructors may suggest specific preliminary reading material to prepare students to get the most from the course; this information will be sent to registered students ahead of time. The courses will include neither prerequisites nor tests.
