WHAT IS MIDDLE COLLEGE?
Offered at Rappahannock Community College, the Middle College is a FREE career development program for young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 who want to obtain a GED or high school diploma and enroll in an RCC certificate, diploma, or associate degree program. Middle College students receive academic courses in preparation for the GED or high school diploma, and a Career Development component that provides assistance
in making career decisions and understanding the role of a college student. Middle College is an investment. Only those who are ready to commit to their education are admitted into the program.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR MIDDLE COLLEGE?
Young adults between 18 and 24 who do not have a high school diploma, want to go to Rappahannock Community College to further their education, and are ready to commit to the program are eligible to apply for entrance into Middle College. To be admitted into Middle College, each applicant must take an assessment to determine skill levels in reading and mathematics.

WHAT CAN I DO IF I HAVE BARRIERS TO ATTENDING MIDDLE COLLEGE?
Help is provided to Middle College students in overcoming barriers that may prevent them from attending and completing the program.

WHAT CAN I EARN IN MIDDLE COLLEGE?
You will earn one college credit for the Career Education class and Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) for the GED class or the high school diploma classes.  The credentials you can earn are a GED or high school diploma, and Virginia’s Career Readiness Certificate issued by Governor McDonnell. All of this is free to you!

HOW MUCH DOES MIDDLE COLLEGE COST?
Middle College is FREE. Everyone is encouraged to apply for financial aid to assist with college tuition.

ARE MIDDLE COLLEGE STUDENTS CONSIDERED COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENTS?
Yes. Once accepted into Middle College, students are enrolled in Rappahannock Community College, having all the rights and responsibilities as other RCC students.

WHERE IS MIDDLE COLLEGE LOCATED?
The Middle College Office is located in Warsaw at Rappahannock Community College.  Middle College classes are offered on the Warsaw Campus, the Glenns Campus, and the King George site.

WHEN CAN I ENROLL IN MIDDLE COLLEGE?
Middle College GED classes are open enrollment so students can enroll at any time. There are day, afternoon, and evening classes.  High school diploma classes follow RCC’s semester schedule.

HOW LONG DOES MIDDLE COLLEGE LAST?
The length of the GED class is determined by how much work the student needs to complete to be ready for the GED test.  High school diploma classes follow RCC’s semester schedule.  The Career Development Component is self-paced. Students are expected to complete these requirements to be ready to transition successfully to college.
