SSS Student Spotlights

SSS Student Success – In Their Own Words:

SSS is a fantastic program! The workshops, counseling trips and luncheons have helped me insure a successful college experience.” Anonymous 2009-2010 SSS student (end of year program evaluation)

Ricky Spriggs, SSS participant and May 2010 graduate says…

The Student Support Services program (SSS) has been a very significant part of my college education. It creates a college experience that all students will enjoy and appreciate. This program is full of committed counselors and advisors who provide academic guidance and support in every way imaginable. The advisors and counselors always have your best interest in mind and will go the extra mile to guarantee your college success. Through this program, I have attained great attributes in becoming a successful student and confident leader. I have enjoyed fun-filled activities which include cultural trips, workshops, and luncheons which keep the program full of excitement and high energy. These activities allowed me to be interactive within the program and have the opportunity to meet wonderful people and create long-lasting friendships. To me, SSS was not only a college program, but was a group of individuals who went from being fellow students to becoming family through the bonds of unity that were shared and expressed in thousands of ways. Every day I am thankful for what the Student Support Services program has imparted into my life and will continue to impart into others.

The SSS program graduated 25 students on May 10, 2010! Sixteen of these graduates plan to transfer to four year colleges in the fall. “Graduates, are you happy?” asked RCC president Dr. Elizabeth Crowther as she stepped to the podium to welcome attendees; to the resounding “Yes!” that came back, she affirmed, “I’m happy for you!” and, “I’m proud that so many have met their goals here.”

RCC Graduation - Class Representative S. Jackson

SSS student Sharon Jackson served as the class representative at the college’s 38th Commencement service in May. Sharon believes that her RCC experience “heightened [her] curiosity about the world, broadened [her] views of culture, and shaped within [her] a new degree of confidence in self, [her] choices, and [her] beliefs.” “My window of community has expanded . . . to more fully understand my place in a global society.”

RCC A Club Students - Spring Luncheon 2010

Evey semester SSS recognizes students for academic excellence, by honoring them at the exclusive “A” Lunch Club. In order to be invited to the “Club”, which is hosted by the college president, Dr. Crowther, an SSS student must earn all As and or S’s while enrolled in two more classes. Above are the students who met this challenge during the Fall 2009 semester. Spring 2010 academic achievers will be recognized on Thursday, September 2, 2010.
