RCC taps Taylor for student activities directorship

D. Taylor

D. Taylor

A native of Oldhams in Westmoreland County, and a graduate of Washington and Lee High School, Dean Taylor brings considerable familiarity with area interests to his new position as student activities director at Rappahannock Community College. His responsibilities cover athletics as well as other types of clubs, organizations, recreational activities, and social events.

“I hope to create activities that will give students a greater experience here at RCC, and that will help them relate to campus life and progress into better students academically,” says Taylor.

In addition to participating in football, basketball, and track while at Washington and Lee, Taylor played football at Virginia State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Since then, he has taught computer technology for three years at Montross Middle School, and has acted as assistant to the varsity football coach, and as head basketball coach, at Washington and Lee. He began his RCC employment as an evening programs supervisor, moving to his present position in November 2011. His goal, he says, is “to have multiple clubs, organizations, recreational activities and national junior collegiate athletics fully active”; and with over a dozen activities already planned, and many more being researched, his efforts seem certain to result in something to interest every student.

Taylor lives in Westmoreland County with his wife Ciara, his six-year-old son Tyson, and his three-year-old daughter Laila.
