RCC hosts Mathews seniors for campus tour

“The kids had a lot of fun,” says Katelyn Dodge, director of school counseling at Mathews High School, about a March 14 field trip by over a dozen Mathews seniors to Rappahannock Community College’s Glenns Campus. “They learned a lot about what RCC has to offer.” Performing the introductory summary of RCC’s resources was college librarian Dan Ream, who laid special emphasis on the excellent research facilities to be found at the library he administers.

Feedback from the students, Dodge said, indicated that they found the tour very informative, particularly a session in the biology lab. She added, “The professors were very welcoming and very helpful to the students.” As a memento of the trip, the Mathews group received a poster welcoming them to the college; all of the students signed this, and it is now on display in the MHS guidance office.

The purpose of the visit was to learn about the various degree and certificate programs offered by the college. In addition to biology, the students had opportunities to discuss the administration of justice, emergency medical services, engineering technology, and several nursing programs with their respective faculty members.
