RCC Gulls open softball season

Rappahannock Community College’s women’s softball team, the Gulls, played the first two games of the season, a home doubleheader on March 2, against Cecil College (North East, Maryland). The final scores were 10-0 and 6-1, both in favor of the visitors.

Future home games, all doubleheaders, will be held on the Elizabeth Hinton Crowther Field (next to the Warsaw Campus tennis courts) on Saturday, March 12, noon-2 p.m., against Sussex County Community College; on Wednesday, March 16, 3-5 p.m., against Virginia Union University; on Saturday, March 26, 1-3 p.m., against the College of Southern Maryland; on Saturday, April 9, 1-3 p.m., against College of the Albemarle; on Sunday, April 10, 1-3 p.m., against the Community College of Baltimore County; and on Wednesday, April 20, 2-4 p.m., against Prince George’s Community College.

The Gulls will play away games on Tuesday, March 15, 2-4 p.m., at North East, Maryland, against Cecil College; on Saturday, March 19, 1-3 p.m., at Arnold, Maryland, against Anne Arundel Community College; on Sunday, March 27, 1-3 p.m., in Hampton, against the William and Mary Club; on Saturday, April 2, 1-3 p.m., at Largo, Maryland, against Prince George’s Community College; on Tuesday, April 12, 2-4 p.m., at Emporia, against St. Paul’s College; on Sunday, April 17, 1-3 p.m., at Takoma Park, Maryland, against Washington Adventist University; and on Tuesday, April 26, 3-5 p.m., at Ettrick, against Virginia Union University. All of these games are also doubleheaders.

For the Spring 2011 softball season, the Gulls’ roster includes Brittnee Aclan and Katie Pitts, both of Colonial Beach; Jamie Garcia and Liesel Schram, both of Essex County; Mara Firth, Gloucester County; Meagan Montgomery, King William County; Jaimié Sibley, Middlesex County; Renee Brown, Melissa Coates, Spencer Gaulding, and Kaylyn King, all of Richmond County; and Markie Pitts, Westmoreland County.
