Nurse aides graduate from RCC-Glenns

On August 9, six students attending Rappahannock Community College’s Glenns Campus nurse aide program completed the course requirements for graduation. Clinical facilities were graciously provided by Riverside Walter Reed Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center in Gloucester. Also, through arrangements with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, the nurse aide graduates will now be able to take their certification test locally rather than having to travel to Richmond.

Soon to begin work at area health care facilities are Alexandra Atkins, Tamara Leote, and Abigail Taylor, all of Gloucester County; Camille Roush, Mathews County; Shakeyia Winston, New Kent County; and Catherine Massock, West Point.

Funding for students wishing to participate in RCC’s nurse aide program is available through the Virginia Employment Commission Workforce Center (804-333-3675), county social services departments, the Job Assistance Center (804-785-2470), and RCC’s Workforce Development Office (Glenns: 804-758-6750, or Warsaw: 804-333-6828), which administers the Virginia Community College System On-Ramp Program. This program supports career pathways planning as well as providing financial assistance to help students who have lost their jobs to enroll in college programs that will improve their workforce skills and employability

New classes for the nurse aide program will begin soon. Further information is available from program director Karen Taliaferro, who can be reached at 804-333-6875, or at ktaliaferro@rappahannock.edu.
