On Thursday, January 9, a student group from Rappahannock Community College’s Glenns Campus traveled to a session of the General Assembly in Richmond — then celebrating “Every Day Is Community College Day” — where they spoke with Delegate Margaret Ransone of Virginia’s 99th District, and Delegate Keith Hodges of the 98th District.
Those making the trip were Diona Orman of Gloucester County; Falon Robertson of Lancaster County; Travis Hill of New Kent County; and Elease Loranger of West Point. RCC president Dr. Elizabeth Crowther accompanied the students, as did dean of college advancement Victor Clough, State Board for Community Colleges member LaVonne Ellis, and history professor Matt Brent.
Students from all over the state observe the legislature’s Community College Days every year by taking part in these trips. The purpose, as well as promoting the legislative goals of the Virginia Community College System, is to remind legislators of the importance of Virginia’s community colleges in providing for the critical needs of the Commonwealth and its citizens.
