Shared Services at RCC

What are Shared Services Courses?

Shared Services courses are RCC courses offered in partnership with Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA). These courses allow students to earn RCC credit while taking an online course with a NOVA instructor, as well as use the RCC testing centers to take proctored tests. All Shared Services courses have a section number in the course schedule of 63 – 65. Each course will have the following statement in the notes area: “Shared Services course offered through NOVA.  Please contact SharedServices@rappahannock.edu for more information”.

As a Shared Service student, you will have access to all the services provided by Nothern Virginia Community College in addition to the resources available to all students at Rappahannock Community College.

  • myRCC (Blackboard, Student Information System, Student Email)
  • Success Lab on each campus
  • Test proctoring on-campus or approved remote location
  • All NOVA student services and RCC student services.
  • Help Desk via RCC and NOVA
  • Online Orientations via RCC and NOVA

What will I need to take a Shared Service course?

Shared Service courses are online courses that can be taken anywhere you have internet access.  Courses utilize Blackboard, the VCCS online learning management system, to view course content.  All courses will be available in Blackboard the first day the class starts. Students taking these courses should receive a letter from Northern Virginia Community College after registering for the course. Students will be invited to participate in an online orientation before the first day of class. Details will be emailed to the student’s email account. RCC has an on-campus orientation for all new students each semester. Students are required to use their student email (username@email.vccs.edu) account when communicating with faculty and staff at RCC and NOVA.

How do I register for Shared Services courses?

Step 1: Apply to RCC Talk with your Advisor about enrolling in Shared Services Courses. Check with the Admissions Office to confirm your application is current.
Step 2: Talk with an Advisor or Counselor to determine which Shared Service Course is for you. Contact SharedServices@rappahannock.edu to find out more about the Shared Services Coruse you are interested in taking. How do I pay for Shared Services Courses?

Once you register for your Shared Service course(s) it will appear in the Student Information System under your course schedule. You can pay for your course online via the Student Information System or on-campus at the Business Office. How do I get my course materials?

 Textbooks for Shared Services courses are available in the RCC bookstores. You will also have the option of purchasing your course materials on RCC’s online bookstore.

If you are a financial aid student, you will be able to use award money to purchase materials in the RCC bookstores. If any financial aid is left over after using funds on tuition and course materials, you will get the amount left in the award amount that was not used when reimbursement checks are issued.

Where can I take proctored tests?

Shared Service course(s) require proctored testing during the semester. Students can be proctored at any RCC testing center location or request an off-site proctored location.
