Medical Coding and Billing Specialist Career Studies Certificate

The certificate requires completion of 14 credits.

PURPOSE

This program of studies will prepare students for positions in medical offices and provides the knowledge and skills to prepare insurance and billing forms for patients and insurance companies.  Medical insurance billing/coding and its related occupations are among the fastest growing opportunities in the healthcare industry

OPPORTUNITIES FOR EMPLOYMENT

Employment opportunities exist in medical and dental offices, clinics, hospitals, and insurance firms for qualified workers in this field.  Ongoing education is essential to career advancement. Students may advance their education through completion of a related degree program.  MDA 208 and 209 may be used as career electives in RCC’s Business Management AAS Degree.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

Applicants must meet general admission requirements.  Prerequisite: placement in ENG 03, 05, and above the 2nd module of developmental math.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

Students are required to earn a C or better in all courses to be awarded the Career Studies Certificate.  Courses may be offered in short, dynamic sessions as well as traditional semester-length sessions.
