RCC’s softball program began in March 2006 under the direction of Coach Reggie Brann and sponsor, Rappahannock Community College’s president, Elizabeth Hinton Crowther.
The aim of the RCC softball team is to produce scholar-athletes — meaning that we’d like our young women to be winners on the field and off. Our softball experience will get them well prepared to succeed in life as well as in the four-year institutions to which they will transfer. Fans and students are encouraged to come out and support the Gulls — all home games are free of charge!
Home games are played at Elizabeth Hinton Crowther Field, which is located at the Warsaw Campus. For more information on RCC’s softball team or its schedule, call Coach Brann at 804-333-3695.
Our school was the first of the community colleges in Virginia to play softball against other colleges, both two and four year institutions. We have had many highlights over these years, including the addition of our own softball field on the Warsaw campus. Many of our student athletes have excelled on the field, in the classroom at RCC, at four year institutions they transferred, and are enjoying rewarding careers.
There will be softball practices at the Northern Neck Rage Cage in Warsaw on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 10 a.m. and Monday, Feb. 2 at 4. RSVP with an email to email@example.com or a text and Coach Reggie Brann will provide directions.
Fastpitch experience and skills in the sport are very helpful. However, it is not a requirement that you played high school softball. We do not practice every day (like high school teams). We have the potential to have a very solid team if the students who have softball skills come out and play. If you work, you would be among many who have done so while maintaining an academic life and personal life while playing RCC Softball. Check us out before you make a decision to play or not play.
The college website has several web pages detailing the softball program at RCC. Our schedule for 2015 is not posted yet, but I am excited to say we have 10 dates set (each a double header) with 8 of those dates in Warsaw. That is a GREAT schedule. All of those dates, except one, are on a Saturday or Sunday and that one date is the Wednesday during spring break, just up the road in La Plata, MD.
Our numbers are going to be close this year so if you have played in the past or have any interest at all, let’s talk in the next day or two. Please call Coach Brann at 804-761-8002.
If you know of others interested in our program, let them know about us and have them contact me as soon as possible. Our program is unique and really the only one of it’s kind in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
