RCC president outlines Kilmarnock plan
A large-scale expansion project, RCC’s “Kilmarnock Center” (opening in January), will offer almost everything that is available at the college’s two original campuses. In addition to the classes needed to complete an associate degree, the Center will expand services to area businesses. It will include two traditional classrooms, two interactive video classrooms, a computer lab, a testing center, and a nursing lab for use by both nursing and EMS classes.
The Center will also house RCC’s Workforce and Community Development Office, and by the bachelor-degree programs of Mary Baldwin College and Old Dominion University. The University of Mary Washington is also working with RCC to develop various entrepreneurial programs.
“We had a bigger opportunity here than just a satellite site,” says RCC president Dr. Elizabeth Crowther, “and we wanted to be able to offer full access to the college.” She expects a settling-in period of about a year to determine by experience what the community wants in terms of course content, class scheduling, class format, and industry support.
